Art is my Guru. I am not sure if it leads me or I follow it towards new horizons and challenges. Unlike artists who like to develop a "style or look" to become more marketable, my art expression refuses to be categorized because it is something I use to make my life fuller versus bringing home the bacon.
My SeaLife series is a good example. I had a vision of underwater images that were both literal (images taken by me) and abstract (with paint, pencil, pastels, and whatever). I like to snorkel sometimes but for this project I would have to learn scuba diving. This was a challenge because of my fear of sharks, drowning, being in deep ocean water away from people, and so forth. I then had to learn and experiment with underwater photography. When I finally got the images I wanted, I then had to learn how to "color" them, something I thought I could never learn.
Surprisingly, I was able to overcome all these challenges while opening up a new world for me to explore in more ways than one. The following images are a small part of what I hope will be a larger underwater body of work that you can enjoy with me.
